Did you know that one in five public school teachers have reported working a second job just to make ends meet? That being said how much do you imagine a teacher would make? Most of which have their masters degree. The average teachers salary in the U.S. is $59,530. The people that we entrust with the future generation is struggling to make ends meet. While buying the large majority of supplies and materials for their classrooms out of pocket. The educators of the U.S. are exhausted, teaching during a pandemic, battling to advocate for their students, and on top of that working part time jobs just to pay bills.
So the question is, why are educators so vastly underpaid. I feel that education is an investment and that we should invest in the education of the younger generation. General K-12 schooling is vital to growing generations that want to learn and grow, and whether it prepares them for college, trade school, or going straight into the workforce it is important. I feel that if we were to provide for our educators better, our school would be a much better place. So why aren't we investing in our future.
