In March of 2020, the unemployment rate went up 18%. Everywhere we turn, there is a desperation for workers. Currently, there are 10 million jobs in the united states where those seeking employment are mismatched by inexperience. For example, if someone has a Ph. D in Psychology, they would not want to work in chick fil a. They are searching for a job that requires their skill, standard, and expertise. This being said, many in the workforce are being discouraged and are not seeking jobs as much. With the labor force participation rate at a low number, there is instability in many households and the economy as a whole. Furthermore, the media has shown that the majority of unemployment benefits are higher than the wages of workers were receiving. This lack of participation and unfair outcome leads people to think that working is in vain and unnecessary.
